Pogoń Szczecin – Lech Poznań 5:0
The Sunday evening didn’t have a happy ending for Lech – the team from Poznań was beaten by Pogoń 5:0, suffering the biggest defeat in the 21st century.
Lech seemed to be playing well in the Sunday away league game, but only until Pogoń – Fredrik Ulvestad, to be precise - converted a corner kick into the first goal of the night. That’s when the defensive line from Poznań started crumbling.
Before the referee announced halftime, Pogoń was already up by three goals. First, Alexander Gorgon beat Bartosz Mrozek with an impressive volley, and then shortly before the break, Vahan Bichakhchyan changed the score to 3:0.
Everybody expected Lech to play a much different second half, but instead, not long after the referee resumed the game, Pogoń scored yet another goal. This time, Mrozek managed to stop the first shot, but Kamil Grosicki’s follow-up tap left the keeper helpless.
John van den Brom’s team tried saving their name, with Kristoffer Velde and Adriel Ba Loua coming closest to scoring, but the squad from Poznań didn’t find a way to beat Pogoń’s keeper.
Meanwhile, the hosts didn’t stop at four. In the added time, Mariusz Fornalczyk received a great long ball and calmly beat Mrozek one-on-one, setting the final score to 5:0.
Lech will have an opportunity to bounce back from this painful loss on Friday – that’s when they will face Puszcza Niepołomice at home (8:30 pm).
