Lech Poznań – Piast Gliwice 1:0

Lech’s clash with Piast Gliwice might not have been the prettiest of matches, but the team from Poznań managed to hold onto a 1:0 score until the final whistle and, as a result, maintained the position of the PKO BP Ekstraklasa leader.

The first half was far from exhilarating. Piast rarely visited Lech’s penalty area whereas the hosts were unimpressive in their offensive attempts. The team from Poznań didn’t seem to have an idea how to break down Piast’s defensive wall. The sole highlight of the first half was Patryk Sokołowski’s successful attempt to surprise Lech’s goalkeeper which was, unluckily for Piast, ruled incorrect as a result of an offside.

Following halftime, Lech finally woke up and started causing problems to Piast’s defensive line. In the 55th minute, the team from Poznań succeeded thanks to Joao Amaral who converted a cross from Joel Pereira into a precise, technical shot. It was the Portuguese’s 7th league goal of the season.

The hosts visibly slowed down after changing the score yet Piast didn’t manage to create many goal-scoring opportunities. As a matter of fact, the team from Gliwice didn’t have a single shot on target in their post-match statistics.

Therefore, the Saturday game ended with a humble win for Lech. The team from Poznań remains the leader of PKO BP Ekstraklasa. Next weekend (October 28th, 3:00 pm), Lech will face their local opponent, Warta Poznań, at home.
