Blažič will play at Euro 2024
Miha Blažič and his teammates from the Slovenian national team advanced to the European Championship which will take place in Germany, in June next year. On Monday evening the Slovenian team sealed their promotion to the tournament's group stage by beating Kazakhstan 2:1.
The Slovenian national team’s situation was clear ahead of the last elimination round – they needed a draw, at minimum, against Kazakhstan. Their opponent was the only team that could still take Slovenia’s spot in the group stage of the Euro 2024, were they to win the Monday game. Denmark ended up winning the group after beating Slovenia 2:1 in the Friday clash, hence the match between Blažič’s team and Kazakhstan was a fight for the second place.
Lech’s defender was in the starting line-up and stayed on the pitch until the final whistle. It was Blažič’s 29th cap. His squad was in control of the game since the first minute. Towards the end of the first half, they were awarded a penalty kick by the Polish referee Szymon Marciniak, which Benjamin Šeško converted into a goal.
From then on, the game became easier for the hosts because they had a margin of error. However, early in the second half, the situation changed when Ramazan Orazov scored a goal for Kazakhstan. Fortunately for Slovenia, Benjamin Verbić set the final score to 2:1 late into the match and gave his team a very-desired win.
