Śląsk Wrocław – Lech Poznań 2:2

In the 33rd league match of the season, Lech Poznań drew with Śląsk Wrocław 2:2. Gytkjaer and Moder scored the goals for Lech.

Following the goalless draw against Pogoń Szczecin, Lech travelled to Wrocław irritated by the loss of points. A storm passed over Wrocław shortly before the match which meant that the pitch was drowning in water. It made the task much harder for the players since for a majority of the first half, they focused on keeping balance and avoiding injuries. Often, the ball would suddenly stop in a puddle, never reaching the addressee which made it nearly impossible to counterattack. Still, Lech managed to find a way to place the ball in the net. In the 17th minute, Kamiński rushed into the box, dribbled past one of the defenders and sent a flat cross into the box. If it wasn’t for a big puddle in the penalty area, Dankowski would have most likely cleared the threat, but instead, Gytkjaer managed to tap it into the net. It was Dane’s 21st league goal of the season.

Śląsk was determined to equalize as quickly as possible and Płacheta played a key role in those offensive attempts. Still, the youngster’s shots were either off-target or successfully stopped by the keeper. Around the 30th minute, Lech had a good chance to set the score to 2:0. However, this time the wet pitch didn’t act in favour of the team from Poznań and Ramirez’s crucial pass to Gytkjaer stopped midway. As the two teams went for a break, everyone kept their fingers crossed that the condition of the pitch would improve ahead of the second 45 minutes.

Although Lech came back for the second half determined to get another goal, it was Śląsk that came close to scoring. First, Łabojka’s clever shot landed on the top net of the goal, and then Pich was stopped by van der Hart. Shortly after, the image of the match changed and the referee was forced to show a few yellow cards to calm down the players; Gytkjaer received his fifth yellow card of the season which meant he wouldn’t play against Legia Warsaw the following week. It seemed that Lech was in control of the game whilst Śląsk tried surprising from with set pieces. That’s exactly how the hosts scored the equalizer. Mączyński sent a perfect, precise pass into the box from a free kick and Śląsk’s centreback, Puerto, effortlessly redirected it into the net.

Despite conceding a goal, Lech got back up very quickly and it only took them a few minutes to take the lead once again. Kamiński wanted to surprise Śląsk’s keeper with a bicycle kick but the ball hit Puerto’s hand which meant that the referee – after seeing the replays – had to award Lech with a penalty kick. Moder converted the opportunity into a second goal.

However, Lech failed to bring home three points because 3 minutes later Łabojko scored an equalizer after receiving another great pass from Mączyński. The team from Poznań was determined to get the win but Tiba’s and Puchacz’s attempts were simply not good enough to beat Putnocky. As a result, the two teams were forced to share points.
