Working on efficacy

Lech Poznań drew in the last two league games, against Stal Mielec (0:0) and Górnik Łęczna (1:1). No doubt, efficiency was the issue. Therefore, the squad has been focusing on improving this specific aspect. On Friday afternoon, a small internal match took place at Bułgarska street – the six goals scored bode well for the end of the autumn league round.

55 shots, 19 on target and only 1 goal scored – these are Lech’s stats from the last two matches. Skorża’s squad didn’t struggle to create goal-scoring opportunities but the efficiency was far from satisfactory. Lech remains the most effective team in the league (28 goals), however, they lost four points in the last two games as a result of poor efficacy.

It’s even more surprising since, until recently, the team from Poznań was regarded as merciless when it comes to converting chances into goals – after all, they are the current leaders of the PKO BP Ekstraklasa and have been regularly scoring three or more goals.

“This past week – which we finished off with an internal match – was devoted to the analysis of the two recent matches. I don’t want to go into details but it wasn’t just about efficiency. Of course, this particular element of the game was most visible because we failed to convert the chances. However, there were more things that we were dissatisfied with, hence we took a closer look at them – we wanted to have more insight into what went wrong and ensure that we don’t make the same mistakes,” explained Rafał Janas, Assistant Coach.

Of course, during training sessions, the coaching staff also put an emphasis on efficacy. The squad will have a similar training plan during the microcycle ahead of the league clash with Piast Gliwice (Saturday, November 20th, 8 pm). “We are well aware that we need to improve this aspect of the game. It was a key point during training sessions, but we approached it from a different angle and changed some things around,” added Janas. The Assistant Coach also admitted that the team looked well during the internal match which took place instead of a traditional sparring game during the international break. The team from Poznań scored 6 goals on Friday which bodes well for the upcoming matches.
