Praising the rival

“If a team plays an additional match in the middle of the week once in a while, it doesn’t have a huge impact on the overall performance. However, if a team plays every three days, the exhaustion becomes visible,” said Jan Urban ahead of the Sunday league match.

The opponent that Lech is going to face on Sunday played a Polish Cup match on Wednesday, which means that it had less time to prepare for the upcoming league clash. Nevertheless, the coach believes that Piast’s schedule is not going to influence the Sunday game. “They have three days in between the games which is enough to rest and regenerate. We cannot forget that there are also rotations in the squad,” emphasized Urban.

However, Piast has been going to a rough time recently. The team from Gliwice failed to score in 4 consecutive matches. Nonetheless, Lech’s coach praises the rival. “They play good football. I have seen their game with Pogoń that they lost 0:2, but could have actually won. They have the same problem we used to have for a long time – they cannot find a way to place the ball in the net. I know, from the experience, that when the offensive fails, it is hard for the defensive line to keep a clean sheet,” explained Urban.

The coach is optimistic and he has good reasons to be so. Urban’s team won 2 out of 3 last games, only drawing against Termalica. “What has Piast got to fear? That we will continue scoring the way we did against Cracovia. We would be placed higher in the league if not for the recent draw, but we failed to win and yet we have reasons to remain optimistic,” said the coach.

The 10-day long break in between the games gave the training staff time to analyze its team’s performances. “Efficiency and effectiveness are the key to winning more points. The team’s commitment in the defense brings favorable results since our opponents find it hard to create goal-scoring opportunities. In most games, apart from the one in Kielce, we controlled the rival’s offensive actions. We aim to build as many goal-scoring opportunities as we can, but we need to keep the balance. We create enough chances to eventually score,” said Urban.
