Lech Poznań – Raków Częstochowa 0:1

For the first time this season, Lech Poznań was beaten at Bułgarska street. In the Sunday league match, Raków Częstochowa triumphed 1:0 and overpassed their rival in the PKO BP Ekstraklasa table.

The Sunday game didn’t go according to Lech’s plan - a fact that coach Skorża openly admitted at the post-match press conference. The team from Poznań struggled to find their rhythm whereas Raków’s intelligent tactics made it very hard to pass their defensive line. The only time that Lech caused any problems to their opponent from Częstochowa in the first 45 minutes was when Jakub Kamiński decided to fire a shot from outside the box, but his attempt was stopped by goalkeeper Vladan Kovacević.

Meanwhile, the second half couldn’t have begun worse for the hosts. Raków converted one of their first goal-scoring attempts of the second half into a goal. Ivi Lopez received a great pass from the flank and placed the ball in the back of the net with a header. The stadium at Bułgarska street fell silent.

Soon after, the fans gathered in Poznań resumed their support for Lech. However, Skorża’s players didn’t bounce back as quickly, and it took them a dozen or so minutes to create the next goal-scoring chance. Despite having plenty of chances to score, neither Dawid Kownacki, Jakub Kamiński nor Pedro Rebocho managed to equalize.

As a result of the win, Raków Częstochowa surpassed Lech in the league table. The two teams have an equal number of points – but the team from the south of Poland was better in direct clashes – whereas Pogoń has a one-point advantage over their two opponents. Next Sunday, Skorża’s squad will face Wisła Cracow at Reymont street, at 5:30 pm.
