Lech Poznań - Baník Ostrava 4:2

In the first winter friendly match, Lech Poznań faced Banik Ostrava. The Polish side beat their Czech opponent 4:2 following goals from Dani Ramirez, Adriel Ba Loua, Filip Marchwiński and Niki Kvekveskiri.

On Tuesday, Skorża’s squad flew to Belek, Turkey for the winter training camp. Banik Ostrava was the first rival that the team from Poznań would face whilst in Turkey. Similarly to Lech, Banik is also training in Belek ahead of the second part of the 2021/2022 season. In addition, both clubs were founded in 1922 which makes this year a special date.

Lech confidently kicked off the match and within the first 3 minutes managed to create the first goal-scoring opportunity. With the help of Norbert Pacławski, Dani Ramirez found himself in a perfect situation to change the score, however, his shout from the penalty area outline was successfully stopped by Viktor Budinsky. A few minutes later, Antczak found himself close to scoring but his attempt at a lob wasn’t precise enough to beat the goalkeeper.

Finally, in the 27th minute, Lech found the back of the net for the first time. Ramirez ran all the way from his own half to the rival’s penalty area and fired a perfect shot from just outside the box which Budinsky failed to stop. Not long later it was already 2:0 after Adriel Ba Loua beat the keeper in a one-on-one situation. Despite the two-goal advantage, Lech cautiously controlled the game. Towards the end of the first half, the youth player Antczak became more active and even had a chance to score, but his attempt from outside the box was off target.

At halftime, coach Skorża decided to give an opportunity to other players and replaced the whole starting line-up. The opening minutes of the second half were an exchange of fire – first, one of the Czech players sent a shot that was far off target and a few moments later Maksym Czekała’s attempt was stopped by Budinsky. In the 59th minute, Mateusz Skrzypczak fouled one of Banik’s players in Lech’s penalty area and the Czech side was awarded a penalty kick which Petr Jaron confidently converted into a goal. 8 minutes later, the scoreboard showed a draw. This time it was Jiri Klima who found the back of the net with a beautiful lob.

The second goal was a motivation boost for the Polish team. Filip Marchwiński’s great dribbling skills and precise shot helped Lech take the lead. 3 minutes later the team from Poznań had a two-goal advantage once again, this time as a result of a penalty kick which Nika Kvekveskiri converted into a goal. However, it wasn’t the last penalty kick of the match. Shortly before the final time, Banik had a perfect opportunity to score the third goal, but Matej Sin hit the post. As a result, Lech triumphed in their first winter friendly match.
