Górnik Zabrze – Lech Poznań 0:2

Lech Poznań effortlessly beat Górnik Zabrze 2:0 in the Fortuna Polish Cup and advanced to the semi-finals.

In the round of 8 of the Fortuna Polish Cup, Lech faced Górnik Zabrze. The two teams have already played against each other twice this season, both times in PKO BP Ekstraklasa. The team from Poznań triumphed in both games (2:1 and 3:1), but neither of the clashes was easy as Górnik was the first side to score. Hence, everyone predicted that Skorża’s team would have to put in a lot of effort to advance to the semi-finals. As a result, Lech’s coach sent in many of the first-choice players. However, there was one surprise – Mateusz Skrzypczak replaced injured Antonio Milić as a centre-back.

Still, neither Skrzypczak nor any of his teammates from the defensive line had a lot of work to do on Wednesday evening as Górnik visibly struggled in the offense. Unlike their opponent, Skorża’s squad caused problems to their rival’s defense. Lech managed to convert two of their many goal-scoring opportunities into a goal and both times it was Joao Amaral who placed the ball in the net. Jakub Kamiński and Dawid Kownacki also came close to scoring but their attempts were successfully stopped by Grzegorz Sandomierski.

In the semi-finals of the Fortuna Polish Cup, Lech will face one of the three teams – Legia Warsaw, Raków Częstochowa or Olimpia Grudziądz. The draw will take place on Friday at 12pm.
