Awwad joins Lech on loan

Having passed his medical tests successfully, Mohammad Awwad has officially become a part of Lech’s squad. The 23-year-old forward joins the Polish club on a one-year loan from Maccabi Haifa FC with an option of buyout.

The 23-year-old is Lech’s latest reinforcement meant to increase the quality of the offensive players’ rivalry and the fight for a spot in the starting line-up. Awwad will compete against Mikael Ishak and Filip Szymczak for a place in the first XI. “We wanted to have at least 3 players for that position because rivalry is essential and has a positive impact on the way players perform on the pitch,” explained Tomasz Rząsa, Lech Sporting Director.

“I am left-footed and I can play either as a no. 9, behind the striker, or on the right wing which makes me a versatile offensive player. I know that Lech likes an offensive style of play and high pressing which exactly the kind of style that suits me. I am very happy to be here. It’s a great honour to play for such a big club with the best football fans in Poland. I cannot wait to present myself to the supporters and I am hoping that I will give them reasons to rejoice,” said Lech’s latest transfer.

Awwad is Maccabi Haifa’s homegrown player. He spent all his career so far at the Israeli club. In the 91 games he has played so far for the senior team, Awwad scored 17 goals and got 6 assists. Last season, he appeared on the pitch 31 times, found the back of the net 7 times and added 2 key passes to his account. His name was on the goalscorers sheet in the recent derby against Hapoel during which he beat Lech’s former goalkeeper, Jasmin Buric.

"Mohammad is joining us from a strong, Israeli club – one of the best in their league – which means that the pressure of wearing Lech’s shirt shouldn’t be an issue for him. Especially since usually Maccabi Haifa’s games are attended by crowds of up to 20 thousand people. In addition, the Israeli team favours a style similar to ours which is based on offensive tactics and that will make it easier for Awwad to adapt to his new team,” emphasised Lech’s Sporting Director.
