Śląsk Wrocław - Lech Poznań 2:0

Lech Poznan lost the away clash with Slask Wroclaw 0:2. It’s the second time this season that the club from Poznan losses all 3 points.

The match could have begun really well for Lech when in the 2nd minute the guests got a good scoring chance. Jevtic and Situm built the offensive action, but the goalkeeper intercepted the final pass. If it wasn’t for the intervention, Gytkjaer was already waiting to tap the ball into the net. Slask had a couple of opportunities to score too. Piech was active in the opening minutes, adding two shots to his team’s statistics, one of them on target, but easily saved by Putnocky.

Both teams tried to play offensive football and the fans gathered at the stadium welcomed the tactics eagerly. Slask had multiple scoring chances in the first half. In the 23rd minute the hosts were awarded a free kick, but Robak’s shot was successfully stopped by Putnocky. However, a moment later the goalkeeper was helpless. Slask players entered the box easily and although Piech failed to redirect Pawelec’s pass into the net, Pich did it successfully.

The match was also full of intense, direct clashes. Slask players saw 3 red cards in the first half. Bjelica was frustrated with the refereeing and brutal football displayed by the hosts. However, since the referee had no intention of hearing the coach out, he sent him to the stands. Shortly afterwards Slask had another scoring chance. Situm fouled Kosecki in the box and Robak converted the penalty kick into a second goal.

The team from Poznan found themselves in a difficult situation – they were 2 goals down at halftime. Gytkjaer’s injury made things worse. The Dane had to be replaced by Nicki Bille during halftime. The forward fired a good shot early in the second half, but it was easy to stop by Slask’s keeper.

Lech tried to cause problems to Slask’s defenders via set pieces, but neither the corner kick, nor the free kicks ended with shots on target. Urban’s team defended effectively and stopped Lech from coming too close to the goal. The guests were in possession of the ball for the majority of the time, but they were kept far from the penalty area. Neither Majewski, neither Jevtic managed to take over the responsibility of playmaking.

Meanwhile, Slask was looking actively for another goal. Pich was one of the best players on the pitch. The Slovakian footballer searched for opportunities to lead a counterattack. In the 78th minute he sent a good pass to Robak, who was left unmarked in front of the box. However, Janicki intercepted the pass at the last moment. Lech was being guided by Rene Poms, who took over the role of the coach in the second half, however, despite clear determination to score a goal, the match ended with a 2:0 win for Slask.
