Jóźwiak with an assist for U-21

Polish U-21 National Team beat Lithuania 1:0 in the qualifiers for European Championships. Lech’s homegrown player, Dawid Kownacki, scored the goal for the Poles following an assist from Kamil Jozwiak - one of Lech’s young midfielders.

Michniewicz’s team was ranked 2nd in their group before the clash with Lithuania while Denmark occupied the top spot. Meanwhile, Poland’s rival had the least points in the group. The first clash between the two youth national teams ended with a 2:0 win for the Poles.

Just like it’s been predicted, Poland dominated the match but struggled to score for a long while. Dawid Kownacki and Mateusz Wieteska had good scoring chances in the first half, while Konrad Michalak and Karol Swiderski came close to scoring in the second part of the match, but neither of these players managed to place the ball in the back of the net.

However, in the 80th minute, Poland successfully changed the score. Jozwiak’s long parallel ball put Kownacki one-on-one with the goalkeeper and Sampdoria’s young forward converted the great pass into a decisive goal. On Friday the striker debuted in the senior national team in the match against Nigeria and later joined his peers for the clash with Lithuania and was given a spot in the starting line-up. Meanwhile, Kamil Jozwiak appeared on the pitch in the 68th minute as a substitute for Sebastian Szymanski. Michniewicz also gave a chance to another player who competes for Lech Poznan – Robert Gumny.

The win helped Poland jump to the top spot in the group after Denmark conceded points in the clash with Georgia that same day. The Poles have a single point advantage over their Scandinavian rivals.
