Jagiellonia Białystok - Lech Poznań 1:1

Lech Poznan and Jagiellonia Bialystok had to share points in the Friday league clash. The two teams drew 1:1, but Lech, for now, remains the leader in the league rank.

The two sides began the match very carefully. Mamrot’s team led continous attacks on Lech’s goal using the left flank, however, Kostevych who’s just returned after an injury managed to stop Novikovas from causing too many problems to Lech’s defensive line. 15 minutes into the match the defender stopped a dangerous cross coming from Cernych. Lech replied in the 17th minute with a cross from Jevtic and an on-target header from Lasse Nielsen, however, the goalkeeper stopped the difficult shot without problems. A moment later Putnocky was forced to intervene when Tomasik fired a shot from an acute angle but yet again the keeper made no mistake.

In the 27th minute Bjelica’s players took the lead. Jevtic crossed the box from the right flank into the box and since neither of players in the penalty area managed to touch the ball, it flew past the confused goalkeeper and into the back of the net. Since that goal Lech began to dominate the match. Radut caused problems to Jagiellonia’s defensive line with either, shots on target, or precise crosses. Shortly before halftime Lech scored again. Jevtic led the attack, dribbled around a couple of players and sent a perfect long ball to Nicki Bille, however, the referee signalized an offside.

Jagiellonia began the second half with intensified offensive actions. In the 51st minute Pospisil’s dangerous header was stopped in time by Tralka. Mamrot’s players kept pressing on Lech’s goal, but it was the team from Poznan that had better scoring chances. Early in the second half Barkroth raced down the right flank and spotted Radut who was waiting in the box. However, since the Romanian was marked closely by the defenders, he failed to redirect the ball into the back of the net.

In the 65th minute Sheridan attempted to head the ball into the goal following a good pass from Novikovas but it turned out to be slightly off target. Slowly Jagiellonia stopped attacking as intensively and Lech began to take control over the match. Tralka and Gajos played the key roles in the last phase of the game. In addition, Lech’s defensive line was performing well that night and managed to stop Jagiellonia’s dangerous offensive actions.

In the 75th minute Lech had the chance to change the score to 2:0. Jevtic led the offensive action and sent a great pass to Gytkjaer. The Dane had only goalkeeper left to beat, however, his shot was easily stopped by the keeper. In the 81st minute Novikovas decided for an effective individual run, but his shot was saved by Putnocky as well.

Coach Mamrot decided to go all in by sending two offensive players on the pitch in the closing minutes of the match. Lech’s coach responded by sending a defensive midfielder on. Jagiellonia finally managed to equalize but not thanks to the substitutions, but thanks to Novikovas who fired a great shot from outside the box. 3 minutes before the final whistle Lech scored again. Gajos converted a free kick into a goal and although the referee ruled the goal as correct, it was later disallowed after an analysis of a replay. Therefore, the two teams had to share points.
