Best start since 15 years

Lech Poznan began the spring league round with 3 wins in a row. Last time the footballers from Poznan had such a successful kick-off was 15 years ago. “That is a reason to rejoice,” say the fans.

In order to recall a similar spring league kick-off, we have to move back in time to season 2001/02 when Lech competed on lower-league pitches. Back then Boguslaw Baniak was the coach and under his lead Lech lost only two games in the whole season. That season the team from Poznan began the spring league round with 3 wins as well; they beat Ruch Radzionkow, Polar Wroclaw and Gornik Polkowice. The 9 league points and a goal ratio 4:0 helped Lech finish the season in the first position.

Moving back to the present times, Lech already beat Termalica Bruk-Bet Nieciecza, Piast Gliwice and Pogon Szczecin in the opening clashes of the second round of the season. “I didn’t know about the historical run. Of course, we have been successful recently and the fact that we equalised an achievement from 15 years ago is an additional reason to exult, especially that we won another game with goal ratio three-nil,” said Marcin Robak, Lech’s best goal scorer.

The number of goals scored is another factor that emphasises how successful the beginning of the round has been for Lech so far. The footballers from Poznan scored 9 goals and conceded none. “We are happy that we managed to score goals and win without conceding ones as well. It builds our confidence ahead of the upcoming games, but we know we can do even better. I wasn’t aware of how successful this kick-off has been for us. It makes us proud and satisfied. We give our all on the pitch and there is nothing better than seeing the results of our hard work,” emphasised Tomasz Kedziora, Lech’s defender and one of the captains.
