Longing to get back on the pitch

It’s been 22 days since Lech Poznań played their last league game. The remaining part of the season has been put on halt due to the pandemic. Lech’s players have been expressing their longing for the ball however, they have also emphasised that staying at home is what we should all be doing for everyone’s good.

On March 8th, 2020 Lech Poznań drew with Wisła Cracow. The stands were filled in with supporters and nothing forecasted what would happen days later. For over two weeks, Lech’s squad, coaching staff and players have been working from home due to the pandemic. “It’s not easy when you are bound to home. I miss playing in the league however, our duty is to adhere to the rules imposed by experts. If we do so, we will be able to return to our daily routine and hobbies soon,” highlighted Tymoteusz Puchacz.

Lech’s captain Thomas Rogne agrees with his younger teammate. “I also can’t wait to get back to the stadium and appear on the pitch in front of our fans. Nonetheless, for now, we ought to adapt to the current situation and follow the rules. That’s the only way of beating the pandemic,” explained Lech’s centre-back. Kamil Jóźwiak also joined in on the conversation and expressed his opinion on the topic. “We would love for the league to resume as soon as possible but the situation is extraordinary, and we must stay at home if possible. We have got to remember about all the people who are at risk of being the victims of coronavirus and not leave our homes unless necessary. I believe that the situation will improve soon and that we will see each other at the stadium not long from now,” added the midfielder.

The coaching staff has prepared a training plan for Lech’s footballers in an attempt to maintain their fitness levels and keep the squad ready for the possible resumption of league competition. “We were given stationary bicycles and a detailed training schedule from the fitness coaches. We are trying to maintain the current form,” explained Puchacz.

However, Lech’s players do more than just train during the national quarantine. Plenty of free time gives them an opportunity to catch up on TV shows, read books, or focus on hobbies that are often forgotten in the intense match schedule. “When it comes to killing time, I recommend playing video games. I like FIFA 2020 career – I am currently the manager of Sunderland. I have bought a couple of Lech Poznań players and now we are aiming for a promotion to Premier League,” said Puchacz. Meanwhile, his teammate Rogne suggested different ways of spending free time. “I enjoy reading books and Facetiming my friends. Of course, I also watch Netflix like most people. Still, none of these activities compares to playing on the pitch,” added Lech’s captain.
