Lech Poznań - Vitesse Arnhem 2:0

On Tuesday afternoon, Lech beat Vitesse Arnhem 2:0 in a training match held in Opalenica. Marchwinski and Crnomarković scored the goals for the team from Poznan.

This time, in the pre-season training match, Lech Poznan faced the fifth best team of the Dutch league – Vitesse Arnhem. In comparison with the previously friendly game, the Polish coach decided to make significant changes on the flanks of his team’s formation.

Lech dominated the opening minutes of the first game. Jozwiak’s impressive individual run down the right flank and Jevtic’s shot improved Lech’s statistics, but didn’t have an impact on the score; the Dutch keeper had no problems saving the Swiss midfielder’s shot.

One of the Dutch team’s offensive attempts could have ended tragically for Lech – Tiba lost the ball in the midfield which resulted in a counterattack. However, Arnhem’s striker failed to convert a perfectly-timed cross into a goal. Shortly afterwards, on the other end of the pitch, Marchwinski found enough space in Arnhem’s penalty area to shoot and he beat the Dutch keeper effortlessly with a confident shot.

Lech kept on attacking intensively using the flanks. One of their offensive attempts resulted in a corner kick that Jevtic turned into a very precise cross. The ball reached Crnomarkovic who had no problems placing the ball in the back of the net and setting the score to 2:0 in the 40th minute.

The two-goal lead didn’t seem satisfactory for the Polish side, hence they kept on relentlessly pressing on the Dutch defensive line. When awarded a free kick, Jevtic converted the opportunity into a beautiful shot, however, unluckily for the Swiss midfielder, the ball stopped on the crossbar.

At halftime, Zuraw decided to send in a brand new line-up mostly made up of youngsters. Despite a relatively low level of experience, the squad dominated over the Dutch rival. Lech was awarded another free kick following one of their offensive attempts; this time one of the Polish players converted the chance into a cross rather than shot; the ball successfully reached Plesnierowicz, but the youngster header was off target.

During the next few minutes, neither of the sides managed to create scoring chances, but Lech did remain in possession of the ball for a majority of the time. 15 minutes before the final whistle, Arnhem woke up and started causing problems to the Polish defensive line. They managed to create a couple of scoring chances which could at least help them pull one goal back, but they lacked accuracy in their offensive attempts.

In the closing minutes of the match, Lech attacked again which resulted in a number of goal-scoring opportunities. Dejewski and Skrzypczak both had chances to set the final score to 3:0, however, since they failed to convert those into goals, the match ended with a two-goal win for Lech. Aside from a valuable win, the youngsters’ impressive performance was one of the highlights of the Tuesday training match.
